Chapter Ten

Angus

Maggie sat on the couch, her back straight as a board and her legs crossed primly in front of her. She had her hands folded in her lap as she studied Heath and Angus, who both sat on the couch directly across from her, holding hands.

"This was fast," Maggie said.

"No faster than it was with Sawyer," Heath replied.

"Sawyer isn't my brother," she snapped.

From what Angus knew of Maggie, he didn't think she would be this angry at the idea of him and Heath being mates. Maybe Gaia had told her something about him? Though, he doubted Gaia would do something like that.

"I want to start by apologizing for not letting you know everything I knew about the fight," Angus said to Maggie, squeezing Heath's hand. "In the end, we were both left in the dark."

"I knew you would both just stop me," Heath grumbled.

"Damn right I would have stopped you," Maggie said, like the words had been simmering inside of her and waiting to explode. "What would I have done if you had been seriously hurt, Heath? What would I have told mom and dad?"

"Really? You're mad because of that?"

"No!" Maggie screamed, getting to her feet.

Angus had to remind himself that Maggie was Heath's sister, not his enemy. He still didn't like how she yelled at his mate.

Maggie seemed oblivious to his frustration though. "I am mad because you were acting like an idiot!"

"Well, thanks. That's great. So glad I went through so much trouble so that you would be safe," Heath huffed.

When he was sure Maggie wasn't going to strike his mate, Angus reclined back, allowing them to argue this thing out. He watched them fight like he was watching a tennis match, turning his head from side to side. At this point, he didn't think either of them knew exactly what their points were, apart from the fact that they loved each other and had worried about each other.

"We need to discuss Marcos," Angus said when there was a lull.

"Why can't we just call the cops?" Maggie asked. "Marcos isn't a bear shifter, and he is doing illegal things. Let the cops handle him."

The idea of using public law enforcement was so foreign to Angus that he could honestly say the thought had never occurred to him. "If you want to call your local sheriff, I won't stop you, but I worry they'll get in the way more than they will help."

Maggie sat down and crossed her legs again. Angus was beginning to see the movement for what it is was - a sign that she was mad. "Heath, I swear, if I had known you were going to get yourself into this trouble—"

"You would have what? Told me not to come? So sorry I had to show up and ruin your life," Heath replied, standing and stomping out of the room.

The look Maggie gave Angus was apologetic, but it wasn't him she needed to say sorry to. "I'll get him," Angus said, getting to his feet.
